Happy Parents by Khalliysgraphy Happy Parents by Khalliysgraphy
Ole and Summer, happy parents of four puppies! =)
The harsh sunlight was actually horrible, as are the photography conditions at the small enclosure they currently live in. (Usually they live in a bigger enclosure with bears, but because of the pups they seperate them from the bears until they are big enough)
The photos unfortunately all need much refining to make the fence-stripes disappear. I was also standing at the most unfavorable spot without noticing it, haha. Oh well, maybe next time I can make better photos.

Wundervoll!

They actually live in the same enclosure as bears?

Yes, they do. In a big enough enclosure wolves and bears don't mind each other. There are some parks in Germany where wolves and bears live together.

Adorable capture. These two look like wolves I know. They are two of the goofiest wolves I've ever met and I would have loved to see them have kids. (Don't think that will ever happen though u.u )

Thank you! =) You mean Yazhi and Kenai? Well, if both of them are fertile why shouldn't they? :D
Ole and his brother Bo (who lives in another park) are also the biggest goofs. And even though they're not hand-raised they like interacting with humans through the fence. If you start hopping infront of Bo's enclosure he'll do the same, run in circles happily and then he will come back and wait that you do it again. :XD:

Yep. Yazhi and Kenai.
Yazhi has been on bird controll...and I have no idea if Kenai is neutered. I don't think he is.
There is just a lot of regulated breeding in the states, so the accredited zoos (AZA zoos) have to keep track of who is related to who, what species should be recommended for breeding, and who has enough space for new babies once they get too old to stay with their parents.
I think there are only 2 zoos that breed wolves, one in Indiana and another in New York? New York is where Kenai came from, Yazhi came from a center in Canada.
The zoo that the two were at will be looking to get wolves in ~20 years, once they finish their 10 year bond measure projects.
It's such a long wait though!

Oh, really? I thought there were more parks in the US that breed wolves. But well, I've never been to US, so I have no clue. :XD: I just know there is also a park called "Wolf Hollow", they also breed.
Here in germany most parks that keep 'polar wolves' (they actually aren't real polar wolves anymore because they were also mixed with timber wolves) breed. I don't like that very much, because they're all related with one pair of arctic wolves that once was introduced to Europe. Parks that keep timber wolves also sometimes breed, because they are quite rare here. So they always find a place where the pups can go. Only european wolves are breed rarely, because we have so many of them. I would love for the park of my hometown to have puppies, but well. Only two girls remain there after two of their sisters have died within the last half year and another one was given away. And even though the enclosure is huge now they don't want any more wolves.

The only wolves to really breed in zoos are the Red wolf and Mexican Gray wolf, both of which are pretty endangered in the states and are possible for release back in the wild. Most of those wolves have breeding behind the scenes (since they don't want the wolves to become accustom to people).

The most common wolf in zoos is the gray wolf, sometimes arctic wolves. Wolf Park also does a bit of breeding for their wolf encounters, where if you pay the right price, you can actually go in with a wolf pack and interact with them.

Ahh! This is incredible! Ole is, by far, one of my favorite wolves that you photograph. I feel like I know him through your photos and your artist notes and this just makes me so very happy.

Yes, he's just so incredibly handsome. I'm already excited how his pups will look when they mature. They surely will be as handsome as him.
