Chasing Killer Birds by Khalliysgraphy Chasing Killer Birds by Khalliysgraphy
It took me a while to decide which photo of my last week's snow trip I should upload. I decided for this one, because it's not so standard. :D
The bones you see here were permanently occupied by flesh-eating great titmouses. :meow: Every now and then one of the wolves chased them away.

What I learned last week was that heavy snow fall isn't actually a good weather to take photos. It makes the photos look grainy and cloudy if the wolves are not very close, it's harder to focus right and you almost always have snow flakes in front of the animal's eyes. And the camera got sooo incredibly wet. Fortunately my camera and lenses are good enough to not mind being wet. But my photo-yield could have been much better if it would have stopped snowing at least for some minutes during the 4 hours I stayed at the enclosure.

Well, nevertheless I have a tons of pictures for Dawnthieves from that shoot. Most of them I consider just not good enough to put them on dA.

Wolves are probably one of my favorite animals, you are so fortunate to be able to photograph so many, uninhibited. Your gallery is great.

Yes, I really am lucky. About fifteen zoos and wildlife parks that keep wolves are located close enough to my home town so that I can reach them within a two-hour drive. That really is much.

What a great moment you captured! I love it. Great sense of movement too as the wolf comes in and bird goes out. Really nice capture.

Killer birds indeed... Here in Finland there was recently a news article about a small group of titmouses -about two or three birds- that had attacked and killed tens of redpolls visiting the same birdfeeder, only to EAT THEIR BRAINS O_O!! Here's a picture of the poor redpolls they had killed [link] . A specialist suspected this behavior to be caused by the competition and the tits' need for some fat (since brains are apparently a good source of that stuff). Apparently, this behavior is -thankfully- something doesn't seem to be common (though I've also seen a picture of great titmouses eating their dead partner... "Dawn of the Tits" much XD?)

On a separate news site featuring the same story, one of the comments below their article seriously cracked me up:
"Do I have to start using holy water for the bird fountain, crumble some holy bread amongst the seeds and set up a crucifix or two outside to keep the Zombietits away?"

Oh my god that's soooo creeepy. o_o''' I can never look at titmouses the same way again ... Holy cow. xD
DON'T LET THEM TASTE BLOOD OR THE WORLD IS DOOMED!

You're not the only one. To think that such cute birds could actually turn into cold blooded murderers :fear:...

Great shot! The composition with the large (but mutely coloured) wolf flowing down one side and the small (but brightly coloured) titmouse zipping out of the other side is just wonderful. It's like your eyes get drawn along the lines of action from wolf to bird... I half expect them to leap off the page! :)

That's a nice description! Haven't even noticed the colour-contrast between the little bird and the big wolf. Thank you very much for your kind comment!

Respekt, wie du den Vogel im Bild festgehalten hast ohne dass er aus dem Fokus rutscht. Unsere Krähen im Wolfsgehege sind da einfach immer zu fix. Schönes Bild
